Things fall apart. I wear a t-shirt from ThinkGeek that says Obey gravity, it’s the law!. No matter how hard I try sometimes, physic catches up and introduce entropy into my life.
This post however, is quite the opposite.
I may have at my disposal currently a team who is worthy for technical enlightenment. I’ve been like a Yoda waiting for a Skywalker to come along to reveal the way of the Force to one whom is worthy of wielding a light saber without injuring himself.
And Yoda just got older.
Now I can attend long meetings, interview potential candidates, write short, complex and demandingly accurate programs, optimize numbers for marketing (even if I have to pull it out from a monkey’s back), asks a girl out on a date, and still have time to train my young Jedis.
This has never happened before.
For the longest time, I’ve been struggling to build an elite team. Average people just won’t do. It doesn’t suffice even if one is able to code hundred programs in a week but isn’t able to learn on his or her own. Self improvement is key to being a good programmer.
Reading textbooks and research is crucial to excel as a software developer. I can get tired very quickly with people who asks me simple questions before looking it up on Google.
That was then. Now I can maximize my time. It used to be that I had 24 hours a day. Imagine if I got five trained developers. That’s 120 hours a day available for optimization! Maybe I’m exaggerating, but teamwork does produce great results. It’s always nice to code on my own, but it’s even nicer to have others write reliable codes that I can use for my development.
So maybe the universe is not so random and chaotic after all. Even to other areas. Maybe.
Those who don’t understand logic are doomed to reinvent it, miserably. So, there. Egypt. Nile. Pyramids. France can wait. I’m so looking forward to my vacation now!
