Food makes America a great country.
With the temperature cooling off in the south as the season heads towards autumn, there is never a better time to carry out one of the most glorious, honorable, time-tested, God-given, utmost sacred American ritual: Grilling.
This practice is usually associated with social gathering events; Known as barbie to the Aussies, or braaing in South Africa; Simply referred to as cook-outs and grill-outs.
For most people (the eaters), the goal of this conduct is to pleased the bulging stomach, but for the cook, it is a rite of passage to civilizedness. Fire sparked invention which set off early civilizations. Remember kids, only monkeys with pants eat raw meat, and sometimes Japanese too.
Combination of appropriate dead animals is of essence in this rite. You can never go wrong with beef, pork, or chicken. Occasionally you get game meat.
Fire control is also a measure of the cook’s talent for a burnt meat is an abomination.
This pervasive tradition in the United States is serious throughout midwestern and southern states. The result is usually, well, mouth-watering and speechless.
Home is where the food is. God bless America!
